Tesla and Uber are partnering to develop and commercialize the first of a series of battery-powered transportation solutions for the mass transit industry.

Tesla and Lyft have entered into a multi-year agreement to develop a solution to integrate energy storage into electric vehicles.

Tesla said in a press release that the project will use Tesla’s latest Model S electric vehicle, which is powered by a new Tesla battery.

This vehicle, dubbed the Model 3, is set to launch in 2021 and will be the first Tesla electric vehicle with a fully battery-electric drivetrain.

Tesla is a division of Google parent Alphabet.
